Fish Kissing

Happy Valentine’s Day!
For the honor of this blog, I have to be a buzz-kill.  These two chromis aren’t actually “kissing”.  They are locking lips to determine dominance in the aquarium.  Although chromis are typically purchased for their schooling behavior as juveniles, they quickly turn on each other.  In fact, I have even seen “gangs” of chromis going after the runt of the group.  I purchased about six juvenile chromis for my 150g aquarium, and within about six months I was down to these two.  They weren’t peaceful toward each other, but they coexisted (often appearing with damaged fins and nip-marks.)
So on this Valentine’s day, remember, fighting can still lead to kissing…and it’s ok to come out with a few nip marks.  🙂
